Media Collection (Mobile)

Added by fatal over 1 year ago

Similar to the previous movie collection web app, but geared towards mobile devices...contains entire collection loaded in meta<browser/> (Movies and TV). On your desktop, if using firefox, it renders exactly as it does on the mobile devices.

Hi,

This will work for any webkit enabled browsers, for example, iPhone, iPad, Android devices, Firefox, and IE9.

It has been tested on the iPad and works fine.

It should be pretty straight forward for most routers, it'll be basic port forwarding, for example, take the following example:

  • meta<browser/> web service is running on my Office PC with a private IP address of 192.168.1.100 and is running on port 7000
  • Go to your routers admin page, usually http://192.168.1.1/ and enter your user/pass if prompted
  • Find settings for Port Forwarding (I believe for your router it is Applications and Gaming -> Single Port Forwarding)
  • For external port, enter whatever port number you want to use from the internet (or leave blank to use same port as internal port), for example, 9999
  • For internal port, enter the same port as the web service, in this case, 7000
  • For IP Address, enter the ip address of the pc running metabrowser, in this case 192.168.1.100
  • For TCP/UDP, select TCP
  • Hit save and make sure to enable the port forwarding

That should be it, now, from the internet, connect to http://wanip:externalport/web/, for the above example it would be, http://wanip:9999/web/.

WanIP is your real ip address, to find that out go to: http://www.whatsmyip.org/. A better way, rather than having to remember ip address, would be to use a free service like DynDNS ...most routers also have configurations available for DDNS using DynDNS.

Please note that you might need to configure your windows firewall on your pc running metabrowser to allow allow for incoming connections on port 7000.

Hey guys. I'm kinda stupid when it comes to networking So hopefully someone can help. I've got meta<browser/> set to run as administrator. I minimize it to the tray so it's always running.

I cannot view the movie collection or media collection(mobile) on any machine other than the machine they are physically installed on. I've tried other machines in the house and my android phone.

I've opened port 7000 for both inbound and outbound rules in windows firewall but it doesn't seem to help. I don't know what else to try. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hey redshirt,

Are you sure you've setup your windows firewall rule correctly? As a test, temporarily disable windows firewall on the machine running meta<browser/> and try from another pc/phone connected to your network. Also make sure to setup your router as outlined above to be able to access your collection from the internet.

Hey Fatal,

Your right it's a firewall issue. I turned Windows Firewall off and it worked great on my phone (which means my router/dyndns config is good). After trying various things I figured out that setting both local and remote ports to 7000 was the issue. Set remote to any and local to 7000 and it works great now.

And let me be clear. The mobile app looks AWESOME on my phone. Not just good... AWESOME.

Is there a way to use a default picture when an actor doesn't have an image in the imagesbyname folder. Because the broken picture image isn't doing it for me :)

Yup, setting Remote port to All Ports works...I dunno why it doesn't work when set at 7000.

Yeh, i'll update that, i just need to find an image. I'm currently integrating a remote control to the mobile web app to play your collection + control media center :D

Hi there

Is it possible to have this as an offline catalogue of films? I would like to be able to have my films catalogue with me at all times, even when I am not connected to the web...

Cheers

Hey,

Currently there is no offline mode. I will create a simple web app for saving/printing, which, will still be online, but, you will be able to save it through your browser's save function for offline viewing.

Besides that, if you just want a simple list of your existing movies, you can just Right Click->Export List on an item in the media collection list, which exports an excel compatible list.

Hi Fatal love this addon , would be great if I could have it sort media by last added as well as title.
I have a couple of kids using WDTVlive players here and they would be able to look up new movies or show on their mobile phone.

Unfortunatly I havent the foggiest idea on programming so its beyond my ability.
Would be a great addition for me though :)

Hey Circuit,

I will be updating the webapps after the next release of metabrowser and I will try to add this feature on the next update.

RE: Media Collection (Mobile) - Added by fatal 8 months ago

Hey Circuit,

I've added this but at the application level. You can now go to Settings->Web Service and check a box that says "Sort media items by Date Added".

RE: Media Collection (Mobile) - Added by satboy 8 months ago

Might be asking for to much but would be possible to be able to export in a html document?

i used to use Mediaportal but have changed to media browser and media portal had a plugin that was called moving pictures and i really loved the ability to be able to look up a movie in the html export and then click the name of the movie and it would take you to imdb and you could then read up on that movie..

RE: Media Collection (Mobile) - Added by satboy 8 months ago

Sorry ignore what i typed above as it was not meant to be in this section,

as for this app i cant wait to give it a go on my iphone..

RE: Media Collection (Mobile) - Added by jamie.deck 7 months ago

Is there any way to add the sort capabilies on the mobile web app to toggle sorting by title or by date added.

RE: Media Collection (Mobile) - Added by fatal 7 months ago

Hey,

Not on the mobile web app itself no. You can select to sort by date added/descending by going to Settings->Web Service and putting a check next to "Sort media items by Date Added"

Are there any plans to add this? Would be a great feature, expecially for TV shows to see what new episodes have been added (useful for us with automated downloads).

RE: Media Collection (Mobile) - Added by fatal 7 months ago

Hi,

As said above, if you enable that option, it will sort the items in the mobile web app by date added as you want, but, again, this is done through the metabrowser gui and not through the web app itself.

I haven't had any time recently to work on the web apps portion of this as I do want to rewrite most of it, so maybe something down the road.
