iTunes Metadata Tagger (Saver Plugin)

Added by fatal 9 months ago

This is a saver plugin to save iTunes compatible metadata into MPEG-4 files (mp4, mp4v etc).

This plugin uses AtomicParsley, specifically these Windows Builds based on Wez Furlongs fork and continued development of the original project.

Notes

  • This is only a saver plugin so it must be used in conjunction with another plugin which stores local metadata (MediaBrowser, XBMC, Netgear)
  • AtomicParsley.exe (from the windows build link above) will be placed in your C:\ProgramData\MetaBrowser 2.0 directory along w/ the plugin dll when installed

All,

Firstly apololgies if I've posted this to the wrong group - as it's my first post and I did not know where to put this.

I would be greatful for some help/direction as i've recently started trying to use this plugin to tag my existing library for use within Apple TV.

Unfortunatly, i'm really strugling as it does not seem to work. I've downloaded the plugin, selected it as a saver alongside existing items such as Media Brower and Folder.JPG but when I click the "save" button - nothing happends. I've checked the AtomicParsley log files and they have not been created. It literally does nothing. I've rebooted the pc, checked file and folder permsions and all looks well. I know its not working because the temporary MP4 file is not being created and when I preview the file within explorer no cover art is resident (same within iTunes). I'm totally out of ideas...

Please Help!!

Thanks in advance,

Chippy03

Hey Chippy,

Please note that hitting the "Save" button won't do anything if no changes have been made to the metadata (ie, if you've just enabled the saver, selected a movie and hit the save button).

To test it out if it is working correctly, do the following:

  • Go to Settings->General
  • Enable "Force Save" (this will resave all metadata when the save button is clicked even if no changes were made)

Now, select a movie and hit Save and see if it correctly tags the movie.

Also, please note that iTunes will not automatically grab the updated metadata, you will have to re-import it into your library (although you should be able to right click->view info to see the updated metadata I think).

I know its not working because the temporary MP4 file is not being created

There won't be a temp file created as I use the option in atomic parsley to overwrite the existing file.

Please test it on some test files so you know it is working correctly and turn off Force Save after your testing.

After you are satisfied w/ the results and want to process your entire library, you can perform a Process All on it by doing the following:

  • Filter your collection to your liking
  • Press the Process All button
  • Uncheck ALL checkboxes in all 4 tabs (movies/series/season/episode) EXCEPT poster/backdrop/banner is the relative tabs
  • Generate list
  • Check "Force save images" (not Force Update images)
  • Process list

Let me know.

Hi Fatal,

Many thanks for the quick reply! I've followed the steps that you suggested against an "expendable" copy of a movie but no joy i'm afraid. I enabled force save, selected the movie and hit the save button, but nothing changed. I notice that you suggest unchecking some options towards the end of your post - could this be the issue? (it's trying to update to many fields).

Kind regards

Hey,

No, the settings at the end of my post were settings for Process All, not for testing.

Do you have logging enabled in Settings->General? If so, does anything show up in the logs when you try to save? Also, just to be safe, make sure to run the application as admin specifically by Right Click->Run as admin.

Edit: Also, do you see "AtomicParsley.exe" in C:\ProgramData\MetaBrowser 2.0\Plugins (just incase your antivirus blocked it when getting the plugin)

Hi Fatal,

Almost there :) I was not running the application as an administrator and having changed this it seems to be working (in part). Only challenge seems to be a filesize limit, for files <2GB it's ok but for files >2GB but <4GB it seems to exhibit the same issue - are you aware of a limit?

Also I'm updating my library accross a network (files are located on a disk array), and I can tell when it's working because it takes ages. There is definiatly a temp file created as it's writing back a new version to the same directory, then using this to replace the original.

For example:

3-10 to Yuma_DVD.mp4
3-10 to Yuma_DVD-temp-22597.mp4 (new file being written too).

If you could let me know about file size limits and why it's creating temp files rather than directly embedding tags that would be great. Also probably a new feature request (let's not get ahead of ourselves, eh) do you know how to populate the "HD" atom within the MP4 file? It would be cool to have the hd logo displayed within iTunes ;)

Thanks again - awesome support.

Hey,

I see, it must create and the replace the original, as I am using the overwrite option in atomicParsley, but that must be the default way it functions, as it should only leave you w/ one final file after it is done processing.

As for a limit, I knew there was a limit in the original AtomicParsely (2gb or 4gb limit i think) but Wez Furlongs fork is supposed to fix that issue, you might want to check the links on the first post of this thread as that is out of my control.

Also, as a test, you can try the latest version of their fork by downloading it here: https://bitbucket.org/jonhedgerows/atomicparsley/downloads/AtomicParsley-0.9.4-hg95.5191bfa76f21.zip and replace AtomicParsley.exe in C:\ProgramData\MetaBrowser 2.0\Plugins (create a backup of it just incase).

If your network is slow (especially if on a raid array like unRaid) then I can imagine it being slow if it first creates a copy and then overwrites the original...

I will look into the HD atom and see if it is available to be written to with AtomicParsley

Hi,

As requested I have tried the linked version of atomicParsley and this now fixes the file limit - ACE!

Thanks for all your help, keep us poted on the HD atom as that would be a sweet addition (you can't update this information within iTunes).
