(New) IMDb.com Fetcher
Added by fatal over 1 year ago
This is a new plugin and has been optimized...the search results are very fast compared to the old version.
Also, this version returns ALL cast, so the IMDb plugin now has a new option to select the number of cast you want to get (default is 12, select -1 to get all cast)

Might have found a bug. Was trying to fetch 'Amélie' but wasn't getting any results because of the 'é'. Went back to the older imdb fetcher and fetching wasn't a problem.

Yeh I see, thanks, i'm noticing a lot of 404's also w/ the new plugin and the movie search function, i might use the old method of searching for movie titles instead.

Is it possible to modify the IMDB fetcher to broaden the search scope. I have several movies which are actually TV movies or straight to VIDEO movies and the IMDB fetcher won't bring up their metadata (as it only returns MOVIE metadata). These movies are on IMDB as a website search brings them up e.g. Category 6: Day of Destruction (TV 2004), but they won't return via the fetcher. I use the TMDB fetcher as my secondary source and that seems to bring these titles up no problem, I guess the data is split up on the IMDB site, but it would be usefull to have access to it when searching for more obscure movies. Please look into this if it isn't too much of a problem.
Anyway... loving the new version not found any bugs so far
Thanks Mr. Fatal

Hey,
I've updated the plugin to include TV Movies and Documentaries. It will be available in the next update.

I just installed the new release and saw the update available for IMDB. I selected it and hit UPDATE but it continues to tell me that the update is still available although v1.0.49 (latest update) is also INSTALLLED. Also tried deleting the plugin and reinstalling but again it shows as being availbale for an UPDATE after the reinstall.

Yes, that fixed the version update problem, but I just ran a Process All with cast/crew images checked and I don't see any image updates for the crew... Am I missing a setting somewhere? Also didn't notice a fetch button anywhere in the cast tab like there is for the poster and background tabs...

Hey,
Make sure your ImagesByName (if using MediaBrowser plugin) is filled in correctly.
Also, there is no "fetch" button for cast, it downloads from the plugin you have selected as the "Preferred Cast Plugin" in Settings->Movies. Then, if not found from your preferred plugin, will use other plugins to find a cast image as long as you don't have "Only use preferred cast plugin" checked.
Although a fetch button next to the cast name is a good idea and something I will incorporate in the next release.

I am using the MediaBrowser plugin and the ImagesByName location is correctly set to C:\ProgramData\MediaBrowser\ImagesByName\. My Preferred Cast Plugin under Settings->Movies is Jon@theHTPC.net Cast (Only use prefered Cast check box is NOT set). Will run again to confirm...

Hi,
Your IBN location should be to the People folder, not the root, for example C:\ProgramData\MediaBrowser\ImagesByName\People\

Thank you for the quick response, and... You are absolutely correct about the IBN loacation... thank you for correcting me. I cleaned out the root directory of ImagesByName and insured that all the appropriate MediaBrowser subfolders including People were in place. From a backup, I repopulated all the subfolders and then reran Process All making sure that Cast/Crew was checked off. I could tell by checking the People sub directory and time/date stamps that several new names were added, so the update was clearly working and adding new names to the People subdirectory. Upon completion, I then checked the movie Bravehart. Mel Gibson is identified as a member of the cast and he is also identified as the director under the crew tab. However, his photo only appears next to his name in the cast---not next to his name under the crew? I have scanned thru most of my 200+ movie titles and I do not see any photos under the crew tab... Is there something else I'm missing?

Hi,
meta<browser/> GUI only shows images for the CAST, crew images are not shown as I don't think they are really that important to be shown in the GUI, but, that does not mean that an image does not exist for him. All available images, cast or crew, are downloaded through meta<browser/>.

Well that explains it, but it begs the question---why bother to have the ability to download the crew images if the GUI doesn't display them? I use MediaBrowser and it only displays actors (cast), so perhaps I'm being myopic and other Media programs take advantage of them...
Thanks again for your support and continued efforts to enhance MetaBrowser!

If you manually fetch (the button up top, not a process all), does MB fetch cast/crew images? It doesn't seem like it does for me. It's only fetching metadata, not any posters, backdrops, cast/crew images. And does clicking on download cast images also automatically download crew images?
And is it possible this is just a limitation in the trial version? I haven't purchased yet...

Yeah, I don't know of any frontend that actually displays images of any of the crew, but I download them if they are available if they ever decide to support them.

For manual fetching, the "Fetch" button up top only fetches the metadata, not any images. Posters/backdrops/trailers/cast images can be downloaded by you by clicking the appropriate fetch buttons under poster/backdrop/etc. Clicking on "Download cast images" under the cast tab will download images for both cast and crew yes.
Process All is an easy way to download/update exactly the metadata you need (read here). Also, here's an explanation of manual fetching that I wrote in another post comparing the "Fetch" button vs Right Click->Process Item:
They are both considered manual fetching, but, when you Right Click->Process Item, it will automatically grab metadata/images (posters/backdrops/cast)/trailer etc w/ the fetch depending on your options you have selected for the manual fetch and options in settings for # of images etc. It will also use the fetcher currently selected in the ribbon. But, when you process an item, it will try to find a "best match" based on your title and/or production year if there is no existing ID for that item.
When you click on "Fetch", all that doe is populate the metadata, images/trailers will have to be downloaded by you. But, this allows you to select the correct movie when it pops up the search dialog window. It also allows you to select exactly the images you want.
A middle ground to this is to perform a fetch, select the correct movie, then process movie, for example:
CTRL+F (fetch)
CTRL+S (select the currently selected item from the search window)
CTRL+I (process item)No need to save, as processing the movie will automatically save it. You can then go back manually and edit any metadata/images to your liking.
