Sort value field options for movies
Added by RCLapCar 3 months ago
I have been using the old Metabrowser for my TV show for a while now but now want to unify my experience and make use of it for movies as well. Up until now I have been using MCM and it has an option to use the movie folder name for the Sort Title field in the metadata. I have been using this to handle the difficult to sort movie series (Batman, Harry Potters and the Star Treks to name a few) by adding the movie order number to the movie folder name.
Anyway I noticed on the wiki (http://themetabrowser.com/projects/metabrowser-v2/wiki/Movies) that the Sort value field in the Metabrowser settings should have seven options (including the Folder Name one I want to use) BUT in the program itself there are only four options available (Folder Name not being one). Is this because I'm only using the trial version or is the wiki simply wrong. If the wiki is wrong would it be possible to add the missing options to Metabrowser?
Just noticed another thing. Would it be possible to add an option to get the movie aspect ratio using the MediaInfo value instead of the fetched value. Similar to how you can specify that for the runtime on the Default fetcher settings section. I was testing fetching for The Lion King and it kept getting 1.66:1 for the aspect ration even though the video file is actually 1.78:1 (1920x1080).
Thanks

Hey,
Anyway I noticed on the wiki (http://themetabrowser.com/projects/metabrowser-v2/wiki/Movies) that the Sort value field in the Metabrowser settings should have seven options (including the Folder Name one I want to use) BUT in the program itself there are only four options available (Folder Name not being one). The wiki page needs to be updated, I removed a couple of sorting options for movies. If your sortvalue in your metadata is correct then it should sort the movies in the order you want and its easy to change the sortvalue through the metabrowser gui and saving it to the metadata. meta<browser/> also shows your movie collections in a tree structure based on your folder structure, so if you have, for example, all your batman movies in a "Batman" folder, it'll show up that way in metabrowser. If you do not, you can multi-select all your "Batman" movies and set the <set> value to, for example, "Batman" and it will now visually show your batman movies under one node.
Just noticed another thing. Would it be possible to add an option to get the movie aspect ratio using the MediaInfo value instead of the fetched value. Similar to how you can specify that for the runtime on the Default fetcher settings section. MediaInfo does not report aspect ratio, the 1.78 (1920/1080) is not the aspect ratio that the film was shot in, but just the aspect ratio of the width/height of the video file itself.

I know I can change the sort value manually but I was hoping for the tool to do it for me automatically. One less thing to remember to change manually for each movie. I may not have explained my layout out well enough. Below is how my files (for the Batman movies) are arranged.
x:\Boxsets
--> Batman
--> 1 - Batman (1989) (Blu-ray)
--> movie.mkv
--> 2 - Batman Returns (1992) (Blu-ray)
--> movie.mkv
--> 3 - Batman Forever (1995) (Blu-ray)
--> movie.mkv
--> 4 - Batman & Robin (1997) (Blu-ray)
--> movie.mkv
--> 5 - Batman Begins (2005) (HD DVD)
--> movie.mkv
--> 6 - The Dark Knight (2008) (Blu-ray)
--> movie.mkv
As you can see I added a number to the beginning of each folder to create a sort order. With MCM it would put the folder name in the Sort value field so that Media Browser would then show the movies in the correct order. I saw the Folder Name setting in the wiki and hoped Meta Browser would also fill in the Sort value field for me. Again one less thing to do manually.
As for the aspect ratio would it be possible to calculate the video files aspect ratio and ignore the fetched value. I know of several cases where a movie is listed with several aspect ratios based on what format it was projected (70mm, IMAX, etc). Ghostbusters is one example. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0087332/technical) It lists 2.20:1 and 2.25:1. I have also seen movies that list 1.37:1 and 1.85:1 (the first being the ratio on the film negative, the second ratio being the anamorphic ratio when projected). Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is an example of this. (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0100758/technical) A simple checkbox similar to what you do with runtime already would be all that is needed. Once again one less thing to manually check and change.

An option can be added to use the folder name for sort value.

But then all movies which are 1920x1080, regardless of their AR will be shown as 16:9...
There's another open request about aspect ratio using ffprobe which im looking into also...

Hi,
I just noticed the feature request (http://themetabrowser.com/issues/830). Would this basically do what I want for the aspect ratio? I.e. Take the video files ratio over anything coming from the fetcher?
I also created another feature request for the sort field.

Yes, that will do what you want it do to for AspectRatio.
I also created another feature request for the sort field.
I have replied to your feature request for the sort field.
